After the injury, Tubman experienced religious fervor and intense visions, which played a significant role in her life and affected her decision making. Tubman had a strong faith in God and often prayed for protection as she conducted her rescue missions (Bennett, 2005). Thomas Garrett, an Underground Railroad agent, wrote of Tubman that he “never met with any person, of any color, who had more confidence in the voice of God, as spoken direct to her soul. . .and her faith in a Supreme Power truly was great” (Larson, 2015, Harriet Tubman Biography section, para. 11). Her faith and the caring of her family and friends helped her endure the dangers and challenges involved in the fight for freedom (Larson, 2004).
